FG reduces fuel price by 50 kobo per litre
The federal government yesterday reduced the pump price of petrol from N87 to N86.50k per litre with effect from January 1st.
In a statement signed by the executive secretary of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) Farouk Ahmed in Abuja, FG said that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) retail stations will sell at N86 per litre, while retail outlets owned by oil marketers will sell at N86.50k per litre.

Woman electrocuted in hotel room on her birthday
24 year old Funke Balogun, a National Diploma II student of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), was allegedly electrocuted in a hotel bathroom owned by her boyfriend Abolade Adetunji's mother at 30, Balogun Street, Oshodi in Lagos on Sunday December 27th.
According to a report by the Nation, Funke who is a mother of one, was in a relationship with Abolade who just passed from NYSC. According to Funmi, the younger sister of the deceased, Abolade came to pick her sister at their residenceon Saturday around 11pm.

Nigeria bans credit card use abroad
Nigeria's central bank has ordered commercial banks to stop customers from using their debit and credit cards abroad.
One bank has emailed customers to this effect, stressing it is a "temporary measure".
Access to foreign online retailers will also be affected when the ban takes effect on 1 January 2016.
It is part of the government's effort to try to stem the flow of foreign exchange out of the country.

Boko Haram: Britain to assist Nigeria with additional military personnel
The British Secretary of State for Defence, Mr Michael Fallon, has said his country will deploy additional military advisers and trainers to Nigeria to help in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
Fallon stated this while fielding question from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.
According to him, the military personnel, who will be in Nigeria next year, will be offering training to improve the Nigerian Army’s resilience to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) left behind by Boko Haram.

Nigerian banks struggle to meet $5 bn forex obligations
Nigerian banks are struggling to meet $5 billion foreign exchange obligations to importers and correspondent banks, reflecting the worsening foreign exchange situation in the country.
This was disclosed, yesterday, by Renaissance Capital in a report entitled: “Nigerian banks struggling for FX liquidity.”
The report stated that due to the inability to access foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), banks are having challenges sourcing dollars to meet outstanding foreign exchange, FX, obligations to importers and correspondents banks ranging from $2 billion to $5 billion.

Benin's Prime Minister walked away unscathed after the helicopter in which he was travelling crashed in the country's northwest, his daughter said.
It is unclear why the helicopter carrying Lionel Zinsou crash-landed in a stadium.

The sum of N514, 150:00 was recovered at an accident scene at Kwaita village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road by a rescue team of the Yangoji unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday, December 26.
The unit commander of the FRSC, Mr. Joseph Ezeh disclosed this to a Daily Trust reporter while handing over the money to one of the survivors of the accident. Mr Ezeh said the money was recovered after two vehicles, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny cars collided. The team who rushed to the scene to rescue the victims recovered the large sum. Fortunately, the victims from the two vehicles, including a reverend father came out of the accident unhurt.

Found this very sad story on Facebook. According to the person who shared it, some South Africans living in the US arrived the country yesterday for the yuletide Holiday and were picked up by the driver of the SUV. On their way, the vehicle developed a mechanical fault and caused it to skid off the bridge and plunge into the river. All occupants of the car died. Quite sad. Gas Tanker in Nigeria Explodes, Killing Dozens
A tanker truck exploded outside an industrial plant in rural southeastern Nigeria, killing dozens of people who had lined up for gas to cook their Christmas meals, the authorities announced on Friday.
The explosion occurred on Thursday afternoon in the city of Nnewi, in Anambra State, according to Chuma Ibeabuchi, the local secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. The inferno sent plumes of acrid black smoke skyward, and it took more than three hours to extinguish.
